How JMach Is Giving Veterans a Voice

Humble Beginnings
Joshua “JMach” Mach grew up in a small country town in Illinois—a regular kid with big dreams but no clear direction. In his early adulthood, he found himself out of shape, stuck in a dead-end job, drifting in and out of college, and struggling to find a sense of motivation or meaning.
All the while, he admired his father—a police officer and his personal hero. JMach had always looked up to the way his dad served the community, but he carried a quiet fear that if he tried to follow in his footsteps, he might not measure up. That fear led him to seek a different path, one that could honor the values his father instilled in him, so JMach aimed to blaze his own trail.

The turning point came unexpectedly. One day, his mother—out of love and a little frustration—told him it was time to get a real job. For JMach, that moment was the push he needed. Despite his parents’ initial hesitation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. It wasn’t a casual decision. For someone with pride and a desire to be part of something greater than himself, he made a bold decision: he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. For someone with a deep sense of pride and a drive to excel, it couldn’t be just any branch—it had to be the Marines. In his words, it was “the best of the best,” and the commitment came with no regrets.
Early Struggles and the Spark of an Idea
After his enlistment, JMach began going through therapy. Like many veterans and young adults navigating major life transitions, he was working through personal struggles that weren’t always visible on the surface. Therapy became a space for reflection and healing—and, eventually, a source of inspiration.
During one session, he mentioned an idea that had been on his heart for a while: starting a podcast to address veteran suicide. It wasn’t a formal plan yet—just a seed of something more. His therapist encouraged him to act on it, suggesting he announce it publicly to friends and family. Though he felt unprepared for such a leap, her words stuck with him. “Honestly, I wasn’t ready for that kind of leap in the moment. But the seed was planted. I went home, recorded a video, and posted it. That was the beginning.”
Launching a Mission: The JMach Podcast Is Born
On Veterans Day 2020, he officially launched The JMach Podcast. What started as a lifeline for himself—a way to process emotions and stay grounded—quickly evolved into a mission to save others. Each episode became a bridge, connecting listeners through shared experiences, open dialogue, and the reminder that no one is alone. The goal was to be real. Through honest conversations and personal stories, the podcast began to tackle some of the hardest topics facing the veteran community: suicide, trauma, identity, reintegration, and mental health.
Over time, JMach’s voice became a source of strength for others. His vulnerability became a form of leadership. And as the podcast grew, so did the impact. The podcast became more than a platform for veterans. “This platform is a space for real, honest conversations that create connection, break stigma, and offer hope.”

JMach expanded the topics to include resiliency, emotional wellness, relationships, and the tools people can use to climb out of the darkness—tools he’s relied on himself, like positive self-talk, gratitude, and the power of belief.
Defining Resiliency and Leading with Courage
For JMach, resilience isn’t a polished success story. It’s the daily decision to show up, even when life feels overwhelming. It’s learning to love yourself through pain, honoring your progress, and choosing to keep going—especially when giving up would be easier.
He believes in manifestation and the strength of the mind. But more than that, he believes in leading the hard conversations. By speaking openly about pain, struggle, and survival, you not only heal yourself but also offer others a roadmap through their own battles.
Because when someone sees you living with your scars—not hiding them—it gives them permission to do the same.
